Since 1889, Montplet has grown to become a benchmark in the national and European market in the production and distribution of alcohol. Over the last 25 years, we have specialized in insect repellents and personal care products.
1889
Year of foundation of the business by JAUME PRUNÉS FONT under the name of its founder. Established as an alcohol warehouse and rectification factory at Paseo del Cementerio no. 105-107 in Poble Nou, Barcelona.
1904
October 7. Relocation of the Alcohol Warehouse to Avda. Icaria no. 171-173 in Barcelona. Change in the orientation of the ethyl alcohol business: the rectification factory is sold, focusing activity on the Alcohol Warehouse—wholesale and retail trade and distribution. Its main clients are from the chemical-pharmaceutical industry and distilled beverage factories.
1909
October 9. Jaume Prunés Font, who has no descendants, brings his nephew Francisco Montplet Prunés into the family business.
1926
January 19. Francisco Montplet Prunés buys his uncle’s business and renames the company Francisco Montplet Prunés. He continues with the same family business and also founds Destilerías Montplet, dedicated to the manufacture and sale of liqueurs nationwide.
1941
October 27. Francisco Montplet purchases an old flour factory on Valencia Street no. 645 and the adjoining land. He establishes MONTPLET, S.A. (MONTSA), a perfumery factory.
1942
November 16. Inauguration of the new facilities and offices on Valencia Street no. 645. Relocation of the Montplet business group: Francisco Montplet Prunés – Montplet, S.A. – Destilerías Montplet.
1955
July 5. Incorporation of ALCOHOLES MONTPLET, S.A. (the company Francisco Montplet Prunés becomes ALCOHOLES MONTPLET, S.A.), focused on alcohol distribution. Management is taken over by Mr. Carlos Socias Raventós, married to Marta Montplet Foj, daughter of Francisco Montplet Prunés.
1976
August 31. Acquisition of Alcoholes Antich, S.A. (1925), integrating it into the alcohol distribution business, thus reinforcing its leadership.
1981
January 19. Acquisition of Alcoholes Barcelona, S.A. and 3 adjoining properties on Vía Trajana Street in Barcelona. The following year, Alcoholes Barcelona is renamed Productos Químicos Barcelona, S.A. (PROQUIBASA), focusing on chemical distribution.
May 11. Relocation of the company to its current site: Vía Trajana Street, 53-59.
1985
May 15. Management is taken over by Mr. Santiago Monfort Carles-Tolrá, married to Mrs. Mª Eugenia Socias Montplet (granddaughter of Francisco Montplet Prunés).
1986
July 17. Creation of Laboratorios MEN, dedicated to the sale of pharmaceutical specialties for disinfection and skin care.
December 15. Expansion of facilities with the purchase of a 1,400 m² plot of land on Rambla Prim.
1999
June. Incorporation of the fifth family generation: Patricia and Vanessa Monfort Socías, with the mission of driving the para-pharmacy laboratory.
September 13. Alcoholes Montplet absorbs and integrates Laboratorios MEN into the Vía Trajana facilities.
2001
January 19.
Start of activities of Laboratorios Montplet.
2002
June. A change in company leadership takes place, with Carlos Soto Torres assuming management.
2007
January. Patricia Monfort joins Proquibasa, taking over management one year later. Vanessa Monfort becomes responsible for the para-pharmacy laboratory.
July 30. Expansion of the facilities with a 650 m² warehouse and adjoining land on Vía Trajana, bringing the total surface area to 9,000 m².
2008
January 19. Start of export and international activities of Laboratorios Montplet.
2010
Incorporation of the line of organic solvents with an alcohol base.
2013
Creation of a new product range aimed at the home and DIY sectors.
2014
On the occasion of the company’s 125th anniversary, we received a visit from the Minister of Economy and Knowledge of the Government of Catalonia, Andreu Mas-Colell.

2015
Renovation of our offices.
2016
Renovation of the entire production and packaging plant for para-pharmacy products.
2018
Following the full acquisition of the company by Vanessa Monfort, Alcoholes Montplet and Laboratorios Montplet are split into separate entities.
2020
During COVID-19, Montplet fulfilled its role by supplying alcohol nationwide to combat the pandemic.
2021
Incorporation of Matthieu Tisseyre as CEO of Grupo Montplet.
2024
Start of the project for the future facilities of Laboratorios Montplet, to be inaugurated in 2026.
